Jim Markham is a highly acclaimed Beauty Industry icon who has led an amazing trailblazing career from being a prominent celebrity hair stylist to developing and innovating over 300 products for five highly successful hair care companies, four of which he founded and five owned including: ColorProof Color Care Authority, PureOlogy Serious Colour Care, ABBA Pure and Natural, Markham Products, and Sebring International.
With each new venture the Markham name has become synonymous with authentic, premium performance products that serve as an Industry standard. To date, under his leadership, Markham’s combined companies have generated over $1.2 billion in retail sales. He is best known for developing the first luxury professional line exclusively for color treated hair and for pioneering sulfate-free shampoos that have revolutionized the way color treated hair is cared for.
Markham was inspired to launch ColorProof Color Care Authority in 2011 after realizing that color care technology hadn’t advanced much since he launched PureOlogy ten years prior. Markham states, “Technology is always improving, including ingredient technology. What was good enough 10 years ago is no longer good enough. Just as you wouldn't use a 10 year-old phone or computer, why use 10 year-old hair care technology when much more advanced technology is available.” With the persistent urging of colleagues and stylists, and his ceaseless passion for product development, Markham was inspired to make a valiant return to revolutionize the Industry once again. ColorProof features a full line of professional, luxury products designed exclusively for color-treated hair combining the latest ingredient technology with best-in-class formulas to create a new standard in color care, protecting hair color from start through finish.
Markham is very involved with the product development process at every level. Markham states, “I’ve built an elite team of some of the best chemists, researchers and ingredient experts in the world who are dedicated to sourcing and utilizing next generation ingredients. We collaborate to create products that are the finest quality with the most advanced technology, bar none.”
The company takes a unique approach to product development. Many manufacturers, Markham explains, conceive a product looking at price point first and performance last which ultimately limits the quality of ingredients that can be used. “We’re not limited by the cost of goods,” he says. “We begin our product development process by determining, first and foremost, the product’s desired performance with superior ingredients and then work backwards - determining the price point last. This is the only way to ensure true innovation.”
Markham personally directs his team to select the very highest quality, newest ingredients available to achieve optimum performance of his dream product and then empowers his inner circle of testers including highly trained educators, stylists and consumers, who provide valuable feedback on all aspects of the product. Prior to ColorProof, Markham was founded and owned of PureOlogy Serious Colour Care, the first luxury color care company. With the launch of PureOlogy Markham is credited for creating the professional color care category and pioneering the use of sulfate-free, salt-free formulas, which have since become an Industry standard. Under Markham’s ownership, PureOlogy quickly became the market leader in professional color care and the Brand’s success was marked by the numerous awards Markham received in recognition of his significant accomplishments within the Industry.
Prior to PureOlogy Markham recognized an incredible opportunity with naturals and botanicals, which became the basis for ABBA Pure and Natural Hair Care, one of the first professional 100% vegan lines in the United States.

Markham’s innate passion for product development and entrepreneurship led him to found his first company, Markham Products, with the help of friends, such as actor, Peter Lawford (left) and radio personality Wolfman Jack, featured with Markham (right). Markham enjoyed great success in evolving the men’s “wash and wear” category of daily shampooing and conditioning. During his time with Markham Products, he continued to be the most publicized hair stylist of his day, garnering constant coverage from newspapers, television, magazines and radio, which created incredible exposure for his brand.
Jim’s entrepreneurial and product development expertise began with Sebring International, where Markham became protégé to celebrity stylist Jay Sebring. When Sebring was tragically killed, along with actress Sharon Tate in the Manson family murders in 1969, Markham presided as president and owner of Sebring Products.

Markham’s product development skills and passion for the Beauty Industry were fueled by his talents as a renowned hair stylist. He had an extensive list of celebrity clientele, and was also one of the most publicized stylists in the world and one of the first hair stylists to receive film credits. “My celebrity clients demanded the very best results, which could only be attained through proper technique paired with high performance products, which inspired me to begin developing formulas that had never existed before and that had far superior performance,” says Markham. With his reputation and expertise, Markham was able to charge the then unheard-of rate of $55 for his haircutting services, coining the phrase “The $55 Haircut”. Markham still makes TV and film appearances and has been the subject of major feature stories.

Markham has been the recipient of numerous, prestigious awards spanning the professional beauty industry, entrepreneurship and business.
Markham lives by the creed "success without giving back is not success” and is a well-known and active philanthropist, along with his wife, Cheryl.
Most notably, Markham and his wife, Cheryl, were recognized by City of Hope, with their 2009 Spirit of Life Award – the organization’s highest honor - for raising over 1.3 million dollars for cancer, diabetes, and other life-threatening disease treatment and research.

Following Hurricane Katrina and at the urging of his good friend, the late, Vidal Sassoon, Markham and his wife Cheryl traveled to New Orleans, Louisiana, to fund and build homes with Habitat for Humanity.
The Markhams are also well-known and active donors of Paul Newman and Joanne Woodward’s charity, SeriousFun Children’s Network (formerly known as Hole in the Wall Gang Camp), which provides assistance to seriously ill children and their families.
The Markhams continue to proudly support worthy causes both locally and internationally, including the National Ovarian Cancer Coalition (NOCC), The Anaheim Ducks Foundation, Globe Guilders, Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF) and many more.
Markham and his wife, Cheryl, reside in Southern California where they continue their successful ventures in business and philanthropy. In his spare time Markham enjoys golf, tennis, yoga, hiking, traveling, philanthropic ventures and spending time with his family. Markham is the father to three children and has three grandchildren.
